"What's the fuss?"

If you think that pashmina is pashmina is pashmina, let us break the news: there are five different qualities of "pashmina" yarn available to shawl producers in Kathmandu.

Most of the so-called pashmina shawls being exported from Nepal and India these days are made from adulterated yarn. If you haven't experienced premium quality pashmina, then you're in for a treat!

By the way, pashmina is just the indigenous word for cashmere, which is a term applied by European colonialists to a fabric that was known primarily as a product of Kashmir, the disputed territory in northwest India.

Sunrise sells only premium quality textiles hand-crafted in Kathmandu, Nepal. We've been exporting since 1999, which is actually quite long in this extremely competitive market. We absolutely guarantee that you will be pleased with our product... and our service.

Questions, questions, questions!
What is pashmina? Is it the same as shahtoosh? What's a ring shawl? How should I clean my shawl? How should I wear a pashima? What's the deal with one-ply, double-ply, jacquard? Why are some shawls so much cheaper? We have answers.

Expecting?

Baby your baby ...in pashmina!

We're here for you!

No voice-mail menus. And we won't leave you listening to an endless loop of What are you doing the rest of your life?

We realize that this is an expensive and complicated purchase. Colors, size, fabric blend, embroidery, yada-yada-yada... Let's talk about it.

We have native speakers of English and Spanish, and our French is pretty good. We'll even take a stab at German or Italian. If you contact us by email (sunrisepashmina@gmail.com), we can handle nearly any language.

So call us at (607) 256-0102. Night or day. We keep weird hours, and if we can't answer immediately, we'll get back to you. Soon.

You say shal (or chale or manton...) we say shawl. "The word shawl is derived from the Indo-Persian word shal, which meant a fine woven woolen fabric used as a drape."

Bad News from Nepal!

Pashima in Peril. Pashmina companies in India and elsewhere are mass-producing so-called handicraft items, and the results are not good. Pashmina yarn is being adulterated and counterfeited. Prices are down, but so is quality. (Not at Sunrise, though!) [More...]

Emily and Lane's wedding party

Here's a posting we found on a blissweddings.com forum, in answer to a question about bridal party gifts.

For Daughter #2, I ordered pashminas in a color that complemented the bridesmaids gowns. [We got them] off the 'net www.sunrisepashmina.com. They have literally hundreds of colors, plus you can have them embroidered... They come in 100% pashmina or in blends (I think one of the blends actually wears better) and in different sizes. I compared the ones I bought with ones I already have from Neiman Marcus and couldn't really tell the difference.

Top 10 Reasons You Should Choose Sunrise Pashmina

There are dozens of online pashmina dealerships. So why choose Sunrise? Here are a few considerations:

#10: We like you. We're never too busy to talk about bridal party colors, trekking in Nepal, or global warming. Even if you don't buy anything!

#9: We are reliable and we are fast. Non-customized pieces generally take one week from placement of order to delivery, and that's without special handling charges.

Faux silk tote bag, included free with each shawl

#8: Freebies! Each shawl comes with a scrumptious faux-silk brocade tote as well as silver-and-stone earrings.

#7: $14.50 flat-rate DHL shipping charge from Nepal... for any number of pieces to any single destination. Lots of companies will tell you the charge depends on weight and destination and manner of shipment... so you don't know how much the purchase will cost until you've wasted a lot of time. With us, you know. And yes, we do lose money on the shipping costs. Note: We offer free shipping on pret-a-porter orders going to addresses in the USA. Pret-a-Prter to other destinations goes by Global Priority (where available) and costs $14.50 per order.

#6: We take Visa, Mastercard, and Paypal. Our shopping cart is secure. Payment is easy, and you're protected.

#5: Attentive personal service. No machine-answered mail. We are with you all the way.

#4: Bridal Special: 10% discount and free shipping for orders of $300 or more -- provided the order includes at least three identical shawls; free earrings and mini-purse with each of the identical shawls ... even if you're not getting married!

#3: Gazillions of choices. Three different sizes plus baby blankets. Hundreds of colors. 100% pashmina or silk blend (70/30 or 50/50). Embroidered borders or full-surface embroidery. Jacquard weaves. Fringed, fringeless, and multiple styles of beaded fringes. Plaid. Ombre two-tone dying. And more options to come!

#2: Top quality. Nobody has better stuff. And ours is all handcrafted: hand-loomed, hand-dyed, hand-embroidered, hand-beaded, hand-checked, hand-wrapped.

#1: Total Safety. Full guarantee on all purchases.
